WhatsApp Live Location Sharing Launched

When you try to share your live location in a WhatsApp chat - by tapping the Attach icon on Android, or the Plus icon on the iPhone - you will be prompted to select the duration of time for which the share will be active. You can only choose from one of the preset options - 15 minutes, 1 hour (default), and 8 hours - and, optionally, add a comment. Khan said that these durations had been picked based on the common scenarios in which people are most likely to use WhatsApp live location sharing. Users can still choose to share a one-time, static location if they prefer.

You can manually stop sharing live location data within a chat at any given time. A new option in your Account Privacy settings will give you an overview of all WhatsApp chats you are sharing your live location in at the time.

Live location shares will show up in WhatsApp chats as thumbnails that show the initial location of the user and a ‘Live until’ time. Tapping ‘View live location’ will take you to a map view where you can see the current location of all the users who are presently sharing their location in that chat. You can switch to a Satellite/ Terrain view of the map if you desire, and even see live traffic data as an overlay, which sounds pretty convenient if you are waiting for someone.

Below the map you will see the names of the same users in a list view, with a timestamp that indicates the freshness of their location data. You can tap a name on the list or tap a profile picture on the map to zoom in to the location of a particular user where you will also see the margin of error (for example “Accurate to 50 metres”) for their location. You can tap the little (i) button next to the user to bring a pop-up that lets you communicate with them using WhatsApp in different ways.

In a WhatsApp group, you can bring up the group info and see all users that are sharing their location with the group at that point in time. This will be particularly useful in busier groups, as you won’t need to scroll up and try to find the message where the user originally shared their location.

“We hope that it provides utility in those scenarios where people are coordinating and meeting up in the real world. We give users control so they can stop sharing at any time and sharing a live location is just as secure as sending any other communications over WhatsApp in that it is end-to-end encrypted,” Khan said.

       Madison Square Garden album premiere event to stream live to theater around the world

   

 

On February 11, Kanye West will release his new album, Waves. That same day, the album will be premiered with a live event at NYC's Madison Square Garden, which will be streamed at theaters in over 20 countries around the world. Tickets are on sale now.

Conceptual artist Vanessa Beecroft will perform at the event. Find the list of participating countries and theaters here.

The Madison Square Garden event is listed as Yeezy Season 3.  Yeezy Seasons 1 and 2 were showcases for Kanye's fashion line; both of those events were also streamed in theaters. He premiered new music at each event: "Wolves" (featuring Sia and Vic Mensa) at Yeezy Season 1 and "Fade" (with Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone) at Yeezy Season 2. 

After revealing the Waves tracklist, Kanye has continued to tease guest stars and new songs. The album includes "Real Friends" and "No More Parties in LA," as well as "Wolves" and "Fade." "All Day" and "Only One" didn't seem to make the cut.

 Kit Harington is bound and determined to make us believe that he’s not coming back for Season 6 of Game of Thrones. First he told BBC Breakfast that he’d only “heard” that Season 6 would be “very exciting.” Now he’s telling Digital Spy that his character is not only dead, but he hasn’t personally filmed for the show “in a while.”

In the interview, which may have been meant to focus on Harington’s upcoming turn in Doctor Faustus but which somehow gets off track, Harington was blunt.

People didn’t want me to die, but he’s dead. So there you go, everyone has to get used to it.​

He insists that his involvement in Season 6 will be minimal, suggesting that if he was seen on set, it was mainly to film a funeral.

I haven’t done Thrones in a while. I had quite a lot of time off last year. I’ve been taking it easy. And relaxing. When I realised I was doing this, I had a few months to prepare for it, and something like this takes some working through before even getting into the rehearsal room.​

Previously, Harington was seen on set during filming of a major Season 6 battle scene. Filming on that sequence wrapped in October, after the production had been shooting it for longer than it had shot any other scene in the history of the show.

It’s been over two months since filming wrapped on that scene. Assuming it really was the last thing Harington filmed, I suppose that qualifies as “quite a while.” And his refusal to do any press during the filming period, or even to show up for award shows, counts as “rest.” He’s probably not technically lying in this interview, but to twist a famous phrase from another series, “An actor never lies, but the truth he tells you isn’t the one you think you hear.”

But 23-year-old Englishman “instantly realized” the group wasn’t for him when he felt unable to contribute musically. “I realized I couldn’t put any input in,” Malik says. “I couldn’t give my opinion on this or that because it didn’t fit the grain of what we were or what we represented.”

So Malik continued  writing on his own, and says his bandmates attempted to make it so he felt more satisfied creatively. “I think the boys kind of knew — in terms of the music — that wasn’t my cup of tea,” the singer admits. But when it came time to talk to Harry, Liam, Louis, and Niall about exiting the world’s most popular boy band, none of the guys attempted to sway his decision.

“They obviously didn’t want me to leave, but they couldn’t talk me out of it at that point,” Malik says. “I’d already made my mind up.”
